I ordered this on Black Friday, getting a good price. I was skeptical on just how good it would look, function, & hold up with heavy use. I have two other leather bags that I love, but I wanted to mix it up a bit. It feels good quality, and it doesn't fold and crinkle like cheap 'paper leather' that I have seen with other leather messenger bags on Amazon.
I was impressed with the color. Granted, I'm sure there is a lot of color variations from bag to bag, but I love this 'starting' color on mine. Overtime, the wear, stretching and scratches will only make it look better.
There isn't a smell on the outside, other than the smell of real leather. The inside canvas has a slight smell, but I know that'll fade with time. I am letting it breathe for a week or two before using it. If it doesn't dissipate, I may use some kind of conditioner on the canvas to try and wash it out.
I'm excited to put it through the paces, and keep it in the bag rotation.

This is a wonderful sturdy briefcase. I love the thicker leather that was used and the fact that it comes in a wider design that I can fit my larger 17” laptop.
I got 2... 18" and the 16". Old school classic look, great stitching, well cut, no regrets. Can work with laptops, overnight items, etc. No buyers remorse.... probably outlast me.
Working great, I gave it to my nephew, he's the coach for the local collage bowling team... They are currently1st in the nation and my last name is Jones...
